Disabling flow control did seem to help for quite a while last night I was almost convinced that the issue had been resolved until we hit Naxx and I DC'd in the middle of a boss pull, and then again on trash about 30 minutes later I dc'd about 5-6 times total but it did seem like thing ran much more smoothly until the DC's started. My last ditch effort to resolve this tonight will be to switch my cable modem to go through a USB connection instead of my NIC, hopefully this will bypass any issues that may be network card related.

Hi JD,

Thanks for the update. Sorry, I wish I had a solution for you. It still amazes me how long this issue has been going on with WoW. In the almost 3 years since I originally posted this I have played a ton of other online games, including a number of MMORPGS (EQII, Tabula Rasa, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer Age of Reckoning) and NONE of them have had this disconnect issue, yet Blizzard can't seem to fix it on their game. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Anyway best of luck and thanks for posting,

Just as a quick update. I was told today that Blizzard is also suggesting that you disable a netowrk card setting called "Flow Control" which I am going to attmept tonight. I will post back with results from disabling this setting.

Hello,
I'm hoping for at least something else to try from the community here as this issue is about to drive me insane. I never had the seemingly random disconnect issue until I installed Wrath of the Lich King last week. Now, I will be disconnected several times a night from both WoW and Ventrilo. It seems that the disconnects happen most when I talk for an extended period of time in Vent however they do happen at other times as well. Vent will lag and people will stop being able to hear me, the game will stall and then I get dc'd. I originally was using wireless so I switched to a direct line, I then switched to running connected directly to my cable modem which also did not resolve the issue. I tried all standard fixes, disabled checksum and forced full 100mb duplex on my network card, removed wtf and all addons etc to no avail. I finally called my ISP last night and they told me that it appears that my cable modem was bad, I was so happy that I ran right out and bought a new one. I got home, set it up and things really did appear to be fixed for about an hour at which time I was dc'd again, and then again about an hour later so on and so forth. I'm now at my wits end with this and have no idea what to do! I am running Vista 32 if that matters for anything. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you read "Gardens of the Moon" by Steven Erikson? Only has 3.5 stars on Amazon, but I highly recommend it. It's a very good read.

I concur. The 4rth book got way off track from the original story, annoyingly so. Only hints of the previous story line and associated characters.
Here's hoping HBO does well with the pilot and elects to continue with a series.
We can all continue our vigil for the 5th book. Though it would seem from Martin's site, that he has been working on it and in fact is nearing completion, albeit with quite a few delays.

Hey Matt,

Yeah, truth be told I did not like the most recent of the series - the first three were really great and set up this HUGE cliffhanger, and then...the 4th book does not cover any of those characters, and focuses mostly on Brienne. Very frustrating - what the heck happened to Tyrion? Does Daenerys come marching back to assault Westeros and take back her throne? I've had to wait years to find out, and the only solace has been the adventures of Brienne which I could give a fig about.

Here's hoping the 5th book is great and gets the series back on track. Even if it doesn't though, the first three are fantastic, and an HBO series recreating all that would be great fun if done well.

[...] Last winter I noted that HBO had optioned the rights to George RR Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series of novels. I incorrectly assumed this meant they were going into production but it turns out that at the time they simply optioned the rights, and they’ve recently announced that they’re funding the production of a pilot episode. Pretty great news really - it still doesn’t guarantee we’ll be seeing the series on HBO, but it’s a significant step forward and increases the chances. Here’s hoping it’s good - as the article I link to notes, if anyone can pull this off it’s HBO. [...]

Hey,

Susan owns the house. I can't actually nail into the basement floor there, at least not without some other major work. Some idiot left a full bag of cement on the floor under the stairs, and at some point the basement flooded, so those cross beams on the floor are laying on this uneven substrate of mostly solid cement, but if you whack it with something it pulverizes. I spent some time trying to beat it off the floor but it was basically hopeless. As to anchoring, well...I did debate doing that. It boils down to the fact that neither of us think we'll be in this house in 5 years (so long as the housing crisis doesn't screw us, anyway) and it's not worth much money, so not worth putting much effort into maintaining it.

not bad! what's holding those up? just the nails at the top? if that's all, you should rent a powder actuated nailer to drive some nails into the concrete. You might be avoiding that if you rent, but from what I can see... you'd be doing the landlord a favor! :P Here's one at Home Depot - http://tinyurl.com/6kjdfq
Either that or run some 2x4's along the bottom to anchor them to the bottom of the stair stringers.

fried twinkies + 2 quarts of soda + 6 hours of videogame daily = you’re going to be fat and get diabetes

Will that fit on a bumper sticker?

I guess it doesn't bother me that much - I'd rather pay an extra buck every month for the ability to get Blu-Ray, versus a sliding fee based on what I used. If the availability of Blu-Ray is not much higher in a year or so I'll be singing a different tune I guess, but for now, I'm happy with how they approached this.
