Honey more effective than cough syrup

A research study has shown that a tablespoon of buckwheat honey is more effective as a cough suppressant than cough syrup and more effective than the primary ingredient in cough syrup.  This news is spreading all over the web, but as an example, here’s a Times Online article on it. I should note that this study was specific to children, so while one would assume the same would be true for us adults I have no idea if that’s actually the case. Still, I’ll try it this winter should I come down with a cough again.

My brother saw this article, and since my nephew has been sick with congestion and a cough, immediately went out and bought honey and tried to get my nephew to eat it. My nephew’s response - to take a fingerful of honey and stick it up my brother’s nose.

Ha! And did it clear up your brother’s congestion?
